Two things come to mind off the top of my head, remove the light fixture in prep. for painting, and then center an overhead projector in the middle of the room, perhaps you can borrow or rent one from a local library or school, draw the spider web of your choice on the projector/clear plastic w/ a dry erase marker and then expand the size, adjusting it to the size you want on your ceiling and then basically trace the whole web while it is projected on the ceiling.
Another option is using a chalk line, the kind where you stretch and measure out the lines and then "pop" the string, leaving a line of chalk for you to work from, although the chalk will probably need to be traced and then washed away before painting.
    Hope this is helpful.

I would get some black string or yarn and knot one right up there. Attach the strings the ceiling with thin white trim nails in the joint of the wall and ceiling so they will not stand out.
